Lainey Wilson Scores Another No. 1 and Adds to Her Record-Breaking Year
Lainey Wilson just scored her fifth No. 1 hit on country radio with “Somewhere Over Laredo.” The song is also up for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance at the upcoming GRAMMY Awards.
This marks Lainey’s ninth Top 10 on the country charts, putting her in third place—tied with Maren Morris—for the most Top 10 hits by a solo female artist. Only Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood sit ahead of her.
Lainey co-wrote the track with longtime collaborators Trannie Anderson and Dallas Wilson, with Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg receiving writing credits as well thanks to the song’s interpolation of the classic “Over the Rainbow,” originally written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and famously performed by Judy Garland.
Trannie celebrated the milestone on Instagram, sharing the moment “Somewhere Over Laredo” hit the top of the Billboard U.S. Country Airplay chart—one of the two main charts labels use to track a song’s performance, alongside Mediabase.
The No. 1 comes on the heels of an already massive year for Lainey. She recently co-hosted the 59th annual CMA Awards and walked away the biggest winner of the night, taking home Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year for Whirlwind, and Female Vocalist of the Year.
There is no slowing her down!!
