“People actually care!” – 10yr old Jayden Schritt on response to his “More Kindness” campaign…
“He’s the oldest 10-yr-old I know, in a lot of ways” says Sharon Schritt of her son Jayden. Yesterday on “What’s The Big Deal With You Tonight” (a feature I love to run after the Drive At 5 weekday evenings that highlights what’s going on with listeners in the QXNation) I got a call about Jayden Schritt from Catherine, our Promotions Coordinator, who was compelled to pull over and find out what he was up to when she saw his road-side stand and fluorescent sign at the corner of Salter and Veronica Bay.

Jayden explained to Catherine that he had witnessed a bullying incident and wanted to be part of the solution so he decided that it should start with a demonstration of caring. After school yesterday, Jayden set up his road-side stand asking passersby to “STOP” and “Raise Awareness” by signing a petition that’s main purpose is to show Mayor Brian Bowman that “people care” and want people to be kinder to one another…and that kids his age can make a difference too.
“He wants everyone to know that we should all be kind to one another and treat each other with respect.” said Catherine, “He’s collecting signatures to show that kids his age can make a difference. He’s going to send the signatures to Mayor Brian Bowman to show that kids can change the world too!”
I played Catherine’s call on QX104 and the QXNation responded beautifully! Jayden’s mom emailed me this morning to share a bit about what happened and its effect on her thoughtful son, “He was SO excited when people came by and said they had heard about him on the radio. I wanted to say THANK YOU so much for your kindness, it made his world that much brighter and of course I’m just bursting with pride. He was out there until 6:30 and even ate dinner at his table so he wouldn’t miss anyone. The amazing thing about him is that he takes none of the credit for this. He said to me “Mom, I’m not the only one doing this. I mean, ya, I’m the one sitting here, but the people that stop and sign..THEY are the ones doing it! They are showing they care. People actually care!”. I’ve been told by at least 5 different people who have stopped and talked to him that he’s an old soul. Lol…the oldest 10 year old I know in a lot of ways. 🙂 He plans on being back out there tonight after school until 6:30 again. Dedicated to his cause.”
It was my birthday yesterday and hearing about the simply powerful actions of this lion-hearted child was the best gift I was given. I’m happy to have the honour of sharing it with you today and, you heard (read) his mom’s words…He’ll be back out after school today (roughly 4pm-6:30pm) at the corner of Salter and Veronica Bay. If you are in the area, please stop by, sign his petition and encourage Jayden! This was his own initiative, and the next thing on his to-do list is to make gift bags and hampers for those who need them most. This kid’s changing the world…the least we can all do is give him a hand 🙂 (SO much love for you and what you’re doing Jayden!!! Keep it up! You are an inspiration…and, by the way, you’ve already changed the world.
