You’ll feel safer at BellMts Place!
Meet Daisy and Dante’. Two highly trained bomb-sniffing Dogs you’ll meet if heading to BellMTS Place. Part of the NHL Mandate and True-North Sports has complied. Recent events in Las Vegas and Edmonton means this type of protection is now a necessity.
The Dogs are owned by retired Winnipeg Police officer David Bessason , who worked with the force as a canine unit handler and trainer. Their day begins hours before any event by doing a thorough search of the facility for suspicious packages. The animals have been taught to sit when they smell the odour of an explosive device. Security provided by Daisy and Dante is enhanced by Magnetometers or Metal detectors as well.
Three Black Lab puppies are in the wings, currently being trained to become part of the 5 member team. Two of the three have already been named. GRACE, in honour of the late Gord Downie’s Anthem, and RYP , in memory of the late , Manitoba Moose , RICK Rypien.
The winning name of the third pup will be announced Friday, Nov. 10 at the Winnipeg Jets NHL Centennial Fan Arena. (FREE tickets are still available to take part in this special celebration of 100 years of NHL hockey and watch the first-ever TSN3 Broadcast Viewing Party, featuring the Winnipeg Jets at the Vegas Golden Knights at Bell MTS Place.)
