Cody Johnson May Have Just Dropped a Hint About Carrie Underwood’s Next Project
Cody Johnson may have unintentionally revealed that Carrie Underwood is working on something new.
During a recent appearance on The Bobby Bones Show, Johnson opened up about the journey of their duet, “I’m Gonna Love You,” and how the song nearly had a very different fate.
According to Johnson, he initially had the track but was told he couldn’t keep it because Travis Denning was set to record it. Denning ultimately passed on the song, and it then made its way to Underwood. While she reportedly loved it, Johnson said she felt it didn’t quite fit the project she was working on at the time. In the end, the track circled back to CoJo.
But there was one condition.
He shared that he would only record the song if Underwood agreed to sing it with him. Thankfully, she did — and the collaboration was officially released in 2024.
Underwood hasn’t released a full studio album since her 2023 project, Denim & Rhinestones. Considering “I’m Gonna Love You” arrived in 2024, and she previously mentioned the song didn’t fit the project she was working on at the time, it raises an interesting question: What was/is she working on?
With more than enough time having passed since Denim & Rhinestones, it wouldn’t be surprising if Underwood is gearing up for her next era!
While nothing has been officially announced, Johnson’s comments may have given us our first subtle clue that something new from Carrie Underwood could be on the horizon!
