One of the most important bridges in North America about to be built!
This will be one of the longest and busiest bridges in North America. It’s the Gordie Howe International Bridge, connecting Windsor and Detroit. Details were announced today!
It’s quite magnificent in that it’s cable stay, much like our Esplanade Riel. Goods and traffic will move on six lanes, three Canadian-bound and three US-bound. The length will be 2.5 kilometres or 1.5 miles. Cyclists and pedestrians will also have a dedicated multi use path. Construction which begins this fall will create thousands of jobs on both sides of the border! The importance of this bridge can’t be underestimated since it will carry 25% of trade between our two countries. Named after NHL legend and Flora Saskatchewan’s very own Gordie Howe, assuring that his legacy will live on!
