What Pop Culture Thing Did Your Parents Ban From You?
Growing up, I think every kid thinks their parents are ridiculous and mean. BUT, for the most part, Our parents are just looking out for our best interests. At least that’s what they told us right? That being said, there’s probably some very popular pop culture items that may have been banned from you to save you from yourself.
I remember my parents banning Beverley Hills 90210 from our house when I was in my tween years, because they didn’t think it was age appropriate. I didn’t even really like the show that much, but I remember having a huge fight with my parents because “ALL OF MY FRIENDS WERE WATCHING IT”.
I also remember a similar argument with my parents over The Simpsons when it first came out.
People are all sharing the different shows, movies and songs that were “BANNED” for them growing up, after a guy named Nick Douglas started the thread on twitter.
What’s the funniest time your parents banned a piece of pop culture from you? My parents ripped a Sabrina the Teenage Witch comic out of my Disney Adventures magazine

Wasn’t allowed to watch the power rangers because it was “too violent” but was alllowed to own the merchandise (pink power ranger hat, action figure, etc.). Was allowed to see Rocky horror picture show and Carrie at age 8 though!

I wasn’t allowed to watch the Simpsons until I was 12/13. My mom would call my best friend’s house to remind them I wasn’t allowed and had to sit out in the hallway while their whole family watched it. But my brother could watch it at 10/11 and I was LIVID
