Send Your Books and DVDs to the Cats and Dogs!
In 2001, I became a DVD addict. If I made a few extra bucks while serving/bartending at the restaurant, I would walk down to Blockbuster and head towards the “DVD SALES” aisle. Remember that one? Where you could buy two dvds for $10, or 3 for $20, etc. That led me to a collection of approximately 300 DVDs that have travelled with me from Vancouver to Winnipeg, from apartment to apartment to apartment and now to my house. If this story sounds eerily similar to yours, then I’m guessing you’re also stuck in the same position I am. You now have Netflix and many other avenues to stream movies, and you may not even have a DVD player anymore. And let’s be honest, if you tried to sell them on Kijiji, the chances of you getting offered anything more than $1 are slim to none. So what do you do with your hoard of DVDS?
Well, you give them to the cats and dogs. The Winnipeg Humane Society is currently collecting used DVDs and books that they will then sell on April 8th to raise money! That means, your old DVDs and books that are wasting space and collecting dust, actually have some use! Drop off whatever you have at 45 Hurst Way (Home of the Winnipeg Humane Society), and hopefully it’ll help our furry friends. Who knows, whatever they don’t end up selling, maybe the cats and dogs will enjoy watching. I know Nala, my adopted fur baby from the WHS, is a big fan of Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Perhaps she will find a copy of that to buy at the “Used Book and DVD Sale”. <—-click there for more info!
